Gemini Spark can now manage your Google Photos library

On September 3, 2026, Google gave Gemini Spark control over your Google Photos library. You can ask it to search and curate photos by subject, location, date, or event, edit and enhance pictures, and build shared or private albums on its own, including turning a photo of a concert flyer into a calendar event. You can also set up recurring tasks, like a monthly highlights album that builds itself. The feature is rolling out over the next few weeks to Gemini AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US who use English.

Why it matters

If you already use Gemini Spark and have a large photo library, this saves you from sorting and sharing photos by hand. It also means Google is handing its always-on agent access to more of your personal data, so check what album and sharing actions it takes before trusting it with anything private.

Gemini Spark can now browse Chrome on your desktop for you

On July 30, 2026, Google gave Gemini Spark the ability to use desktop Chrome directly, browsing with your logged-in accounts and saved passwords instead of only a separate remote browser. Google's example tasks include scheduling apartment viewings you've saved or researching and starting a flight booking. You still have to approve payments and other sensitive actions, and the browser has protection against prompt injection. The Chrome integration is rolling out first in the US. The same day, Google also brought Gemini Spark to Google AI Pro subscribers in more than 160 additional countries, following a full US rollout.

Why it matters

If you're on Google AI Pro outside the US, this is likely your first chance to try Spark at all. And if you already use it, letting it drive your own signed-in Chrome instead of a separate remote browser means it can act on sites your Google connectors don't cover.

At Google I/O 2026 on May 19, 2026, Google introduced Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent built into the Gemini app. Give it a task and it keeps working in the background around the clock, even when your phone and laptop are off, running on dedicated virtual machines on Google Cloud and powered by Gemini 3.5 with Google's Antigravity agent harness. It connects to Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Sheets, and checks with you before taking major actions. It launched to Google AI Ultra subscribers the week after the announcement, alongside a macOS app integration.
