Gemini gets a native Windows app that puts Spark on your desktop

Your move: Free to download; Spark itself still isn't available in the EU, UK, or Switzerland

Google launched a Gemini app you can install on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Press Alt and Space together to open it over whatever you're doing, no need to switch windows or open a browser tab. The app also gives Gemini Spark, Google's always-on personal agent, a permanent spot on your desktop: you can hand it multi-step tasks, like research or drafting a project summary, and it can pull in context from your Gmail and Google Drive. The app also bundles Nano Banana image generation and Gemini Omni video generation.

Why it matters

This is the easiest way yet to reach Spark from a Windows PC: one keyboard shortcut instead of a browser tab. The base app and download are free with a Google account, but Spark and Gemini Omni video still need a paid Google AI plan. Spark also remains unavailable in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, the same restriction it has had since launch, so this change doesn't help users there.
