Muse passes ChatGPT to become the No. 1 free iPhone app
Your move: Passed ChatGPT within its first two weeks
On September 18, 2026, 9to5Mac reported that Meta's Muse had passed OpenAI's ChatGPT to become the No. 1 free app on the US iPhone App Store, about a week and a half after its September 8 launch. Muse had ranked No. 2 as of September 10, so this is a jump to the very top spot, ahead of ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude, Grok, and Microsoft Copilot.
Why it matters
Reaching the top of the App Store chart shows Muse's early download numbers weren't just a one-week launch bump, and it gives Meta a strong case to keep investing in the app and fix its rough edges fast. Chart rank alone doesn't say how many people keep using Muse day to day, especially with earlier reports that Meta's own staff flagged privacy and security problems before launch.
