TIME finds Muse keeps hourly dossiers on users and people they mention

Your move: Open the file browser and tell Muse to forget what you do not want kept

On October 6, 2026, TIME reported that an analysis of Muse's internal instructions found the agent builds continuously updated dossiers on users and on the people they mention in chats, messages, and emails it has read, updated hourly, including relationships, shared interests, disputes, and which nudges work (an internal example reads "This user responds better to short nudges after 10 PM"). This is a new report after the contact pages WIRED described on October 3: people who do not use Muse get mapped by other users' agents, and de-identified learnings are shared across Muse agents to improve the product, though Meta says that information is not shared directly between agents and that data is not shared with its ad system. Meta did not dispute the findings and says users can tell Muse to forget things, but the instructions tell Muse not to point out that original messages may stay visible in chat; the instruction files are viewable in Muse's file browser, and encryption Meta plans later this year is not yet available.

Why it matters

If you use Muse, open its file browser and read what it has written about you and your contacts. Tell it to forget anything you do not want kept. Forgetting does not necessarily erase the original message, which may stay visible in the chat.
